Matahiwi Marae

Today we enjoyed a great visit out to Matahiwi Marae. It was interesting to hear the stories and legends behind the carvings.

Football

This term it is the footballers' turn to teach our class skills. So far, the boys have planned great PE sessions. Well done!

Basketball

For the last Two Thursdays, we have had Basketball Hawkes Bay teaching our class some Basketball skills. We're looking forward to the next 3 sessions!

The Faraday Centre and Laserforce

We had an AWESOME day yesterday exploring innovation and invention at the Faraday Centre an Laserforce. Thanks to the parents who came with us!

Netball skills

Our four Aces netball players ran a netball skills session today. You did a great job, girls! Well done. Later in the term our soccer, rugby and hockey players will get a chance to do the same!

Today we had fun making projectors and holograms. These three groups were very successful!

A great day was had by all at swimming sports. TK came second overall.

Today we made windmills to explore wind energy as part of our sustainability inquiry.  

So how is wind converted into power? You'll have to ask one of us!

Technology block opening

Georgia was the lucky student who was randomly selected to cut the ribbon for the technology block opening on Friday. Lucky Georgia!

Science fair success!

Congratulations to Jack F who received an 'Outstanding' in the project section at the Hawkes Bay Science fair.

Charlotte and Adelle received commended awards as well!

Alice completed in the Technology challenge and came in third place.

Well done to all of those who completed projects this year.

HNHS PE

We really enjoyed the PE sessions with HNHS. This was an excellent experience for them and us.

Debating win!

Congratulations to our three awesome debaters on their win against Room 13.

We were negating the moot: "Social media does more harm than good."

Alice has been selected to represent our house at the year 9 debate finals on Friday. Good luck!

William Pike Challenge

This year we have 7 members of our class aiming to complete the William Pike Challenge. Here are Jack T, Bella, and Alice on the high ropes course last Friday. Awesome work guys!

Winter sports

This term in PE our sporty classmates have been taking turns teaching skills and reffing games across the different winter sports.  Thanks to our netballers for 2 weeks of great lessons! Next up, hockey.

Yesterday we had a great time practising our 'tenting' skills. Bring on camp!

Year 8 Marae visit

Last Friday all the year eight HNI students visited and were welcomed onto Matahiwi Marae (with a powhiri). We learnt all about the history and whakapapa of the marae as well as the tikanga and customs. Thank you to Mr Tom Mulligan, Clive School, Papa Togi, CJ, Holleigh and Nicholas for your efforts. Thanks also to the parents who accompanied us. What an awesome day!
